Back to O'Neill April 28-May 7 Site 6

Image
Ok, we are back at O'Neill Regional Park in Orange County. Took a Lift to Eva's house this morning and picked up our jeep. After a short visit we were back at C-19. Darrel worked on cleaning out the garage. I cleaned the stove, fridge and cleaned up the balcony flowers. This place is so clean and fixed up I hate to leave it. Well, not really, I am so ready to go. Just one more week and the real trip begins. Eva, Clark and Finn came and stayed at the campground in the RV on Friday, 5/3. We had grilled chicken drumsticks, salad provided by Eva. Later the boys made s'mores without the marshmallows.  The boys stays Saturday morning and helped around camp while Eva went to a church leadership retreat. The Eva drove Clark to a party and Finn and I to C-19 where we helped Darrel take stuff out of the condo. It's getting emptier. We stayed an extra day at O'Neill's Park and sold the Prius, fixed the dishwasher and had a new smoke detector and carbon monoxi...

Santee Recreational Preserve, San Diego County April 27 Site 261

Image
Just for one night we drove down to Santee preserve as we couldn't get the the 27th at O'Neill Park. We thought it would give us one more chance to visit with Jason and family before we start heading North. The Preserve has 7 lakes with lake 6 and 7 used by the campers only, to fish or boat in. They had about 7 different playgrounds with included a spraypark. We walked the length of it and back to our site 261 which was at the far end from the gate. It is a long park and looks like a great place for a family camp out, especially with young children. Link to pics

O'Neill Regional Park, Orange County April 22-27 Site 10

Link to pics We're now at O'Neill park where there's no hookups at our site, so we get to practice dry camping.  Lot's of good trails to hike here. We've been here hiking before. But while we're here this week we'll be driving back and forth to our condo to finish up getting everything out of the garage. So this week is just sleeping and waking here. We'll be here next week and hopefully get to hike around then. The mornings are cold and the afternoons in the 70s which is like every place in southern ca so far. There's a group of boys on razors and bikes racing around in the morning. I wonder what they will be like when they grow up. Right now one is yelling we can't go that way, (some of the road is one way) and another is yelling "we can go wherever we want!" I think they're 4 brothers plus a few friends collected from other campsites. They're our entertainment while we drink our coffee/keto chocolate. (Darrel/Deb)

Lake Elsinore April19--22

Day 15 Left Lake Morena and headed toward Lake Elsinor. We spent most of the day driving to an RV repair place to get our tires looked out. We found it's really hard to check the air in the tires or put air in and needed some kind of extensions. Didn't find anything. We also got gas at Cosco. Basically all the side trips took most of the day. We started out at 9am and got to Lake Elsinor at 3pm.  The sites here are really close together. (Sardines comes to mind). We lucked out because Diane gave us a choice and we picked a site that didn't have a scheduled occupant on either side. Nice! The view is beautiful. There's kid's swimming in the water and lots of fishing going on. The water is good here, so first thing, we filled our water tank. Our view of the Lake Did I mention poké stops. Well for those who care there's only one stop here at the entrance, but several near by. (Patriotic Horses, Planted Cowboys (2)) Patriotic Horses (Pokémon Stop) ...

Lake Morena SD County Park April 12-19

Lake Morena  sign  and Pokémon Stop Left Dos Picos and arrived at Lake Morena County Park after stopping off at Albertson's near Alpine, CA and a hardware store for more supplies.  You can't drink the water at the Lake Morena campgrounds so we picked up more water. Our first campsite was so not level we requested a move. After a $5.00 charge we picked up and moved to site 47. A short walk to the showers and bathrooms. Supposedly washing in the water was not a problem.  We didn't get majorly sick but we now have a water filter on our list. view from our window We rode our bikes around to check out the place. There's a poké gym at the Rainmaker memorial, a stop by the playground and a stop at the park entrance. We rode down to the boat launch and thought about taking out a boat to fish later in the week. But ew, eating fish from dirty water didn't seem a great idea. However, there were people pulling out some big bass. Backpackers coming from PCT Saturd...

Dos Picos County Park, San Diego April 6-12

So far this is the best kept campground and trails I’ve ever been to. Jason and family came to visit on Sunday and the kids had a great time trying out all the stuff in the RV (sinks, toilet, beds) After lunch we hiked to the playground. Avery, Luke and Dylan had fun playing on the equipment. They had an event to get to and left around 1:00. We spent the week learning the trails, we did a hike every morning and spent the rest of the day organizing where we wanted our stuff to go in the RV. Two of the days we rode our bikes into the town, Ramona, and took care of more shopping and business. Each one of those trips took 3 or more hours. We loved the campground, we were just disappointed in our wi-fi signal. We spent a lot of hiking up the hill for phone calls and internet use.   Link to Dos Picos pics

Heading to Dos Picos

Image
Jason and Kathleen Left the Aliso Creek Rest Area early and headed south towards Dos Picos SD County campground. Took a slight detour and stopped in at Jason and Kathleen’s house in Poway. We borrowed a car and went shopping for some needed stuff. We stayed for lunch. Thank you! and admired the gorgeous pool. Avery showing us her sunglasses Jason, Darrel and Luke -Cheers! After lunch we headed out to get to the campground before dark. Kathleen gave us salad and barbecued ribs to take with us.  We ate them for our first dinner at the camp site #3.

The Adventure Begins

Image
Link to condo pics We are really ready for our road trip.  Our condo C-19 went on the market Tuesday and we cleared everything out (almost) and put all the boxes in our smaller condo F-3. Friday morning we picked up our RV (Coachman Leprechaun 319 MB).  We packed all the boxes from the house we thought went into the RV and drove to the park to organize.  Couldn’t hang out by the condos blocking everything. Turns out we took boxes we should have left and left boxes we should have took. So... we weren’t ready to leave Santa Ana till 7 pm. Our first destination Dos Picos, San Diego County Park. We made it as far as the rest stop by Oceanside. So on our Adventure Begins, our first morning will be waking up at a rest stop. Aliso Creek Rest Area
